A November Morning was painted by Sir Alfred Munnings, a renowned twentieth century British artist. Munnings had a keen passion for horses and this is reflected in his exquisite paintings, of which the majority depict magnificent equestrian scenes.

A November Morning is a quintessential fox hunting scene with the composition dominated by the gentleman wearing a scarlet jacket seated upon his grey horse and surrounded by a pack of hounds. The scarlet jackets are worn by gentlemen referred to as Masters of the Hunt and they are traditionally responsible for leading the fox hunt. Munnings was able to accurately portray the movement of horses and hounds in the midst of a hunt due to his personal knowledge and experience of fox hunting and horse racing. The sport of fox hunting began in Britain during the sixteenth century and this traditional sport evidently impacted Munnings life and artwork considerably. A November Morning was hung in the 1931 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and was one of two hundred and thirty pictures exhibited by Munnings in the Summer Exhibitions throughout his successful career
