Mercedes-Benz`s first race on their return to grand prix racing here at the Nurburgring. A grid decided by pulling names from a hat meant that the likes of Mlle. Helle Nice and Per-Victor Widengren were able to start alongside the mighty Mercedes-Benz W25 of Manfred von Brauchitsch.
von Brauchitsch died in 2003 at the age of 97.
