The rain was still pouring, the scores were level, the clock showed 100 minutes. This was to become the defining moment to Englands Rugby World Cup campaign. In the dying moments of extra time Englands forwards, from a line-out in the Australian half, drove infield for position. Dawson conjured a break, jumping through a gap next to the ruck to take play into the 22. With Wilkinson in the pocket, Dawson bided his time before feeding his fly half the perfect pass from which Englands No.10 slotted the winning drop goal. England became the first Nothern Hemisphere side to claim the games ultimate prize in what was arguably the greatest finale to the best ever World Cup
