First published by Moon, Boys & Graves of 6 Pall Mall, on 1st January 1831. The correspondence of Henry Graves, one of the publishing partners, shows that the engraver John Scott died whilst engaged on this plate and that the work was completed by John Webb. Pointers were originally bred to locate hares, which were then hunted by greyhounds. When a pointer scents game it freezes, nose, spine and tail forming a straight line.
