The picture shows the Duke of Beaufort and the members of the Beaufort Hunt assembling at Badminton, where the hounds were kept. A lawn meet was – and is – the assembling of the company in the grounds of a chosen private house, as a prelude to the hunt. Stirrup-cups of port would be provided, after which the hunt would move off at precisely 11 o’clock.
