Barry Rowe is much admired for his accurately researched and painted works depicting automotive scenes from the 1930’s through to the present day and has established a reputation on both sides of the Atlantic
Barry Rowe’s career as a painter began when he won the prestigious Sotheby’s/Transport Trust Art Award for his portrait of five times world champion Juan Manual Fangio.
An automotive magazine feature of Barry’s work followed, which led to commissions from Louis Vuitton of Paris, and Royal Caribbean Lines for their new cruise ships.
Barry’s work has been exhibited in London, Silverstone, Goodwood, Paris, and The Hotel de Paris Monaco. He has also exhibited extensively in the USA; New York, Cavallino Classic, Palm Beach (Ferrari), Pebble Beach (awards of excellence 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2007 and also the Lincoln award), and Meadowbrook Hall where he has received three awards of excellence. Barry also received an award of excellence at the inaugural Cranbrook Hall Concours d’Elegance where he was commissioned to paint their poster for 2004.
Barry was delighted when he was elected a full member of the Automotive Fine Art Society and continues to exhibit at their annual events at Pebble Beach and Amelia Island. He painted the Concours poster for Pebble Beach in 1998 and 1999 and the Tour Poster from 2000 onwards. Barry also painted the poster for the 2003 Monterey Historic Automobile Races.
He has been invited to paint the poster artwork for the 50th anniversary of Hillsborough Concours d’Elegance in San Francisco in May 2006.
Fascinated with the expression of light and atmosphere, Barry almost always includes people in his automotive paintings, and treats his pictures as art, not just illustrations of cars.
Publisher, David Bull of Arizona, published a book of Barry’s automotive paintings in March 2004. Called ‘Atmosphere & Light: The Automotive Art of Barry Rowe’, it was awarded a golf medal in New York in November 2004.
