Bramshaw Bob was a famous champion Labrador. Like all his kind, he was a descendant of dogs sold in Britain by Newfoundland fishermen who brought their catch across the Atlantic. The name Labrador was first used in 1887 by the Earl of Malmesbury, an enthusiast. As well as being an efficient gun-dog, the Labrador is a faithful companion and is thus frequently used as a guide for the blind.
