Graham Isom’s latest limited edition is a depiction of Sandown Racecourse. Founded in 1870, Sandown Park in Surrey is one of the most popular racecourses in the United Kingdom. It is noted particularly for the famous hill finish which has created many nail-biting race finales. The course hosts 26 different meetings both on the flat and over jumps each year, of which the most significant is the Gold Cup meeting each April. Specifically, Graham Isom’s portrait is a depiction of the Charcoal Guildford Alanbrooke Memorial Handicap Chase, which took place at Sandown on 16th February 2001. The first three horses to finish were all Irish; the race was won by Real Value, trained by Mrs D M Grissell and ridden by Mr B Hitchcott. Sandown is a painting from Graham Isom’s series “Great Racecourses of the United Kingdom”.
