Owned by the 6th Earl of Scarborough, trained by Sam King and ridden by George Nelson, Tarrare won the 1826 St Leger Stakes

He was the first winner of the Doncaster St. Leger after the course had been altered by being slightly shortened and the starting gate widened. The race was notable for having the first and second place horses sired by the same horse, a noted racing stallion named Catton
