in 1966 Ford finally won the 24 hours of Le Mans with a 1,2,3 finish. Ken Miles who led the race slowed down at the end of the race being laps ahead at the end of the race to let the other two GT40 entries to catch up and cross the finish line together. The win was taken away from Miles when it was determined that a dead heat was impossible due to Mclaren’s car starting 20 yards behind Miles at the start of the race, thus having travelled further at the finish. This abstract piece depicts the battle between Miles and the Ferrari in a fender to fender battle just before the number 21 retired with engine problems as it tried to keep up with the Ford’s top end performance.

The 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans was the 34th Grand Prix of Endurance, and took place on 18 and 19 June 1966. It was also the seventh round of the 1966 World Sportscar Championship season. This was the first overall win at Le Mans for the Ford GT40 as well as the first overall win for an American constructor
