Goutelette on Paper

This painting, by Montague Dawson, located off the Isle of Wight, refers to a time early in the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was always keen on ships and sailing ever since his days as a naval officer and it is probable that he sailed this vessel more than his wife. During the 1960’s the 63 ft. yawl, which was jointly owned by The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, was often used for participation in various competitive events and The Duke of Edinburgh used to race her during Cowes week.
