The first of Jay Kirkman’s wonderful paintings to be published in the gouttelette format is entitled After the Race.
Born in California in 1958, the artist Jay Kirkman moved to England with his family and began to focus on equestrian art in 1980. Since then, his work has been exhibited regularly in London to considerable acclaim; described by one critic as “a marriage between Stubbs and Munnings”. His paintings are held in many eminent private collections both in the United Kingdom and abroad.
The vivid colours of Jay Kirkman’s brush provide a dramatic contrast to the tones of the horses he paints and enliven the rich earth-colours of his English landscapes. Through a close study of light and shadow and a meticulous attention to detail, Jay Kirkman is able to communicate to the viewer the excitement and often mixed emotions of the racing life.
