The Doncaster Gold Cup takes place in Yorkshire and was established in 1766. It was initially held at Cantley Common and moved to Doncaster Race Course in 1776. In its early history, it was contested over 4 miles and in 1825 reduced to 2 miles and 5 furlongs, in 1891 to 2 miles and 2 furlongs and then in 1908 for a short period, reduced to 2 miles 1 furlong and then restored to 2 miles 2 furlongs.
