Hugely popular, One Man amassed over £430,000 in his career, including 2 victories in The King George V Chase, The Hennessy Gold Cup and The Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
Described as a ‘rubber ball’ by his trainer Gordon Richards, his springheeled jumping made him a joy to watch. It was amidst scenes of jubilation that he was crowned king of 2-mile chasers at Cheltenham in 1998, laying the ghosts of previous attempts to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup when he clearly did not stay the distance. Holding a special place in people’s affections, on his One Man was a truly great horse.
