‘Attraction’ is a portrait of the great Classic-winning filly at Floors Stud in the Scottish Borders. Bred and owned by the Duke of Roxburghe, her dam and grandam are also shown in the background. As a yearling, she was the ugly duckling of the paddocks, yet went on to a glorious career and made racing history in the process. Thoroughbred experts have had much to say about the way she moves, particularly her signature ‘windmilling’ galloping action. Trained by Mark Johnston, she became the champion two-year-old filly in Europe in 2003, went on to be the first filly ever to win both the English and Irish 1,000 Guineas in 2004. Overall, she recorded ten wins from 15 starts, including five Group 1 victories. She retired in 2005 – one of the most popular horses in racing – and returned home to the stud at Floors Castle where this painting also hangs to celebrate her illustrious career.
