The distinctively-shaped double-intake nose of the 1961 Ferrari 156 was soon nick-named the “Sharknose”. It was the dominant car of the year and is seen here at the Nurburgring at the German Grand Prix. Count Wolfgang Von Trips leads American team-mate Phil Hill out of Adenau Forst corner. The two team-mates were to have contrasting fortunes. Von Trips was to suffer a fatal crash during the Italian Grand Prix at Monza while Hill would win the World Championship at the same race.
