Fangio reckoned his greatest race was the 1957 German GP at the Nurburgring; this picture shows the opening few seconds of that race with the Ferraris’ of Mike Hawthorn and Peter Collins leading. Fangio is on the extreme left in a Maserati 250F. With ten laps to go he was behind the leaders by 45 seconds. By breaking the lap record repeatedly he managed to win both the race and the 1957 Championship.
