Tazio Nuvolari, believed by many to be the greatest of all racing drivers, coaxes his Alfa Corse-entered 8C 2.3 Alfa Romeo round the Station Hairpin on his way to victory in the 1932 Monaco GP. He is followed by the similar car of Rudolf Caracciola which finished second. In 1936 Caracciola returned, winning the race for Mercedes, by which time German racing colours had changed from white to silver and the legend of the Silver Arrows was reaching its peak.
